Plaza El Indio

The Plaza El Indio welcomes visitors to the town of Baruta due to its location, on the corner of Sucre and Ricaurte streets. The square’s condition was very deteriorated, and its isolated location and lack of accessibility made it an unfrequented place. In addition, there was an illegally operating kiosk and the remains of a building that had not been completely demolished.

In 2022, the Mayor's Office of Baruta proposed to transform the Plaza into a place for recreation and congregation, where people would feel invited to stay, in addition to serving as a place of acknowledgement to the Cacique Baruta.  Extraneous elements were removed and new swings, tables, benches and vegetation were added to reinforce its plural condition for people of all ages. Another significant transformation was the incorporation of a new entrance from the north side through a staircase, improving circulation through the square. The entrance along the south side is level, ensuring universal accessibility. Landscaping includes new planters on the edges of the square, the expansion of the existing planters and a new green wall of a low-maintenance vine, which increases the presence of vegetation in the plaza. The concrete pavement floor was restored and sand was placed in the swing area for the children's safety.

The Plaza Baruta now acts as a place of interest for the entire community, where people enjoy and share the space at different times of the day. It also offers a new welcoming façade for those who come to the town of Baruta, including visitors and residents of the community.
