In December 2017,  Enlace Arquitectura installed a series of canopies in the informal settlement El Calvario in El Hatillo Municipality of Caracas as part of the third edition of the event "El Calvario Open Doors". The installation consisted of seven canopies made of synthetic plastic fibers in various color combinations and sizes that trace the ascent up to the La Cruz Plaza where the largest canopy was suspended. The intention was for these colorful interventions to enhance the celebratory spirit of the holiday season and invite people from the entire to visit the barrio, meet the community and enjoy the canopies. They also served as a way to demarcate a path that joins the Bolivar Square in the El Hatillo town center with the informal settlement El Calvario and physically connecting formal and informal city segments by creating a continuous formal experience. This would serve as a metaphor for a desired integration of urban fragments both in kind and in sprit. We used the hashtag #CubiertaElCalvario to encourage visitors to upload and share photos taken of themselves and the canopies in El Calvario.

The canopy was designed together with architect José JavierAlayón. We are grateful to Cheo Carvajal and Caracas a Pié for inviting us to participate and Jose González, Carmen González, and Carlos Torrealba for their support in the community. We would like to recognize Daniel Torrealba and Rubén Castellanos for their tremendous help during the installation. From the entire Enlace Arquitectura team our sincere appreciation.
